Mooikloof Glen Country Estate, Pretoria East
The Estate promotes architecture that utilize the open spaces offered by the 8 500 m² stands. They encourage owners to incorporate natural elements and sustainable technology in their designs. They do not prescribe specific aesthetics or styles to be adhered to.
The client’s brief called for a country style house with a wrap around stoep. The site slopes steep towards the north and offers a flowing view over a stream with a natural hill in the background. For technical and cost considerations the house follows the contour lines which also makes the most of the view. Sewer water is recycled through a septic tank and filtering system and is used for garden irrigation. A water tower with tanks provides a back-up fresh water supply. Back up electricity is supplied by a generator.
