Karee Millitary Base
Polokwane, Limpopo.
The Brief from Department Of Public Works called for the rehabilitation of the whole base. The base served as the major Air Force Base for the North of the country. After the Airforce base relocated in 1995, the Army moved into the Western part of the base. The Northern part of the base (runways, hangers and back-up facilities) was transferred to the Limpopo Provincial Government and became the Polokwane International Airport – also known as Gateway Airport.
The Base comprises of approximately 450 structures ranging from residential components, administrative, leisure, operational and auxiliary facilities which now fulfil the needs of this Army Support Base.
A Stage 1 Report, which quantifies and establish the scope and predicted cost of this project, was completed in May 2014 and submitted to Department of Public Works.
The project is currently on hold while DPW and the Defence Force are planning the allocation of the required funds to proceed with the project.
