Wessel Hamman Studio
The original pool house, positioned on the south side of the pool, could no longer accommodate the client’s needs. A more spacious entertainment area with kitchen facilities was needed.
The client also needed studio space for painting with some exhibition and storage area for artworks. It was also decided to incorporate a guest suite into the design.
The existing area was extended towards the pool with a steel structure and clad with glazed aluminium panels and doors that open towards the pool. A timber deck was introduced between the doors and the pool edge.
An open serving kitchen was introduced into the existing area which will serve as a lounge or exhibition area.
The studio was added on the south side with a similar steel and aluminium structure, allowing natural south light into the space. A timber deck will be installed on the south side of the glazed doors. Studio space can then be extended to the outside into a private garden. The studio is linked with the lounge through sliding barn type doors.
The guest suite on the first floor is linked with the entertainment area with a spiral stair. The space open up onto a balcony overlooking the pool.
Exposed steel structure, unfinished concrete and oriented strand board ceilings give an industrial feel to the otherwise clean minimalist approach. The concept is further enhanced by plain clean finishes and fittings. The artful use of glass and colour helps to keep things refreshing while recycled wood elements ads a natural feel. The timber inlays in the cementitious floor reflects the silhouette of an adjacent tree. Well paired furniture finish off the interior.
